ART INSTALLATION

PALAZZO BONOMINI, VOLTERRA

SUMMER – AUTUMN 2020

Organic forms and shades, from painting to sculpture, establish a harmonious and silent relationship in the main gallery room of Palazzo Bonomimi. Like in a hortus conclusus (enclosed garden), the steadiness and purity of the works identify the overall installation space as a place for contemplation and separation from the complexity of contemporary society.

Conceived during a long time of preternatural isolation and solitude due to the world pandemic crisis in spring 2020, Silent Spring exhibition is a tribute to Nature and a celebration of natural life, featuring the works of Alain Bonnefoit, Yoshimi Futamura and Olga Niescier. Intimacy, silence and solitude.

Here materiality is everything. The warm-marble colour of the stone statue by Bonnefoit reflects on both Niescier’s large-scale paintings and Futamura’s large ceramic sculptures, creating an intriguing symphony of matters and nuances, from brown to grey to white. Closed in on itself, the white delicate sculpture Cristina reveals Bonnefoit’s characteristically sensuous and elegant depictions of the female form, fostering a search for introspection and necessary isolation. Close to Bonnefoit’s artworks, Nature is blooming in Niescier’s paintings: an organic intertwining of branches flowing and extending like veins, carrying life and nourishment inside the canvas space. Standing in front of Niescier’s paintings, Futamura’s sculptures from the series Black Hole. Being inspired by the artist’s reflection on the earthquake and tsunami of 2011 in Japan, these artworks evoke the hidden, mysterious side of Nature.
