Deep within the woods in the midst of Val di Cecina lies the enchanted hamlet of Castello Ginori di Querceto, where time seems to stand still: a unique and hidden treasure, an oasis of peace, rich in life and culture. Following a months-long closure due to the pandemic, the village is ready to welcome visitors back for a summer full of festivals, live music, performances and art. For this occasion, Kalpa presents the exhibition project REBIRTH | RINASCITA by Tamara Ferioli and Olga Niescier creating an elegant path of multiple organic-sculpted flowers and vertical pictorial canvases.
Focusing on the ideas of renewal and turning point, REBIRTH investigates the manifold forms of nature as a deposit of arcane laws of preservation and transmission. The new exhibition design is inspired by the narratives and visuals that are traditionally associated with processions and celebrations. Along the hieratic exposition nave, where silence dominates the space, Ferioli’s flowers proceed spontaneously towards Niescier’s large final canvases, as if following a ritual of meditation and contemplation.
The multidisciplinary artist Tamara Ferioli (1982) explores the cycle of life, the endless processes from birth to death and rebirth. In her sculptural installations, the syntax of life appears crystal clear and suspended in an eternal moment that becomes the quintessence of introspection. The fishbone, an unusual material provided by Nature, becomes Ferioli’s small scale precious sculptures, placed in a mindful environmental installation, a constellation of wild flowers with perfect interlocking structures, rich in delicacy and vitality.
Taking inspiration from Japanese philosophy and approach to figurative art, Olga Niescier (1978) uses natural forms in her works as symbols, painting branches that become veins to the observer’s eye. Their characteristic dense textures and three-dimensionality are achieved by skilful and patient application of acrylic and oil paint layers, natural pigments, and dried herbs. Choosing four vertical panels for the large-scale artwork Rebirth, Niescier aims at stressing the idea of growth and regeneration presented in the joined exhibition.
The summer cultural season in the enchanting medieval village of Castello Ginori di Querceto (Montecatini Val di Cecina, Pisa), in the heart of the Val di Cecina between Volterra and the Etruscan coast, runs from July to September and features performances, exhibitions and workshops. REBIRTH is organised in collaboration with Accademia Libera Natura & Cultura / Marco Polo and Anima Silvae cultural associations.
Entrance to the exhibition is free, which is open every day until 12 September 2021. There will be guided tours of the exhibition by Kalpa on the occasion of the summer festivals: VinOPERA (11 July), Querceto International Piano Festival & Masterclasses (dates 16, 18, 25 and 28 July) and Arte & Musica 2021 (dates 8 and 29 August).
